THE FIRST WAR
“This is a game I respect ...
There's a great deal of thought involved ...
But, it looks to have a great deal of strategic depth for a civ game,
and, since it's designed for two players in mind, does a better job
than others do with such.
There is some luck (especially with exploration and population growth),
but for the most part these are factors that you can carefully mitigate
the risk involved. Combat (which is luckless) starts out as something that
almost feels like a swirling tactical cavalry battle, since the attacker
has the advantage with their most mobile pieces. As tech advances,
and the fights center near the homeland though, defense becomes stronger.”
